Brain Tumour Ireland invites postgraduate MSc, MD and PhD students, and Medical & Surgical Trainees in Clinical Neuroscience Subspecialties to submit a lay abstract describing their brain or spinal tumour research.
The abstract should explain the research clearly to a non-expert audience, highlighting why the research matters and its potential impact.
About the Ronnie Fehily Medal
This year marks the fourth edition of the Ronnie Fehily Medal, awarded annually by Brain Tumour Ireland in recognition of outstanding contributions to the field of brain tumours.
Brain Tumour Ireland was founded in 2012 by the Fehily family following the death of their mother, Ronnie, shortly after she was diagnosed with a brain tumour.
Who Can Apply?
The competition is open to:

- Medical & Surgical Trainees in Clinical Neuroscience Subspecialties
Applicants must submit an abstract based on research they have done or are currently undertaking.
Submission Requirements
The lay abstract must:

- Be written for an interested non-expert audience

- Clearly explain the research, its purpose and importance

- Explain the planned outcomes and potential impact

- Be no more than 400 words
-
- Contain text only; photographs and other images are not permitted

- Do not require references
Key Date
Submission deadline: 5 pm, Sunday 18 October 2026
Late submissions cannot be considered.
The winning author will be notified by email on or before 23 October 2026.
Presentation
The winning abstract will receive the Ronnie Fehily Medal and the winner will be invited to give a 10-minute overview of their research at the RCSI Humanarium on: Wednesday, 4 November 2026
